Honey is a beloved natural skincare staple — it's a humectant (draws in moisture) and is naturally gentle. Use raw honey (it's thicker and less processed) and only mix what you'll use right away, since these are fresh and preservative-free.
Three recipes
1) Plain honey glow
- 1 tbsp raw honey
The simplest option — just warm honey slightly so it spreads, and apply.
2) Honey + turmeric (brightening)
- 1 tbsp raw honey
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp plain yogurt (optional, to buffer and add lactic acid)
3) Honey + oats (sensitive/calming)
- 1 tbsp raw honey
- 1 tsp finely ground (colloidal) oats
- A few drops water to loosen
How to apply
- Patch-test a dab on your inner arm and wait 15 minutes (especially for the turmeric mask).
- Mix your chosen recipe in a small bowl.
- Apply a thin, even layer to clean skin, avoiding the eyes.
- Leave on 15–20 minutes (honey can drip — do this over a sink or with a towel).
- Rinse with warm water, pat dry, and follow with your moisturizer.
🟡 Turmeric staining
Turmeric can leave a faint yellow tint and stain towels/cloths. The yogurt helps; use an old cloth, and a gentle cleanser removes any tint. Don't use on freshly bleached/very light hair near the face.
FAQ
How often? 1–3 times a week is plenty. Manuka honey? Lovely if you have it, but any raw honey works. Can I store leftovers? Best made fresh; the yogurt/oat versions especially shouldn't be kept.
