This balm is essentially a scented salve: a firm oil-and-wax base carrying a small amount of aromatic essential oils. The beeswax sets it solid so it melts on contact with warm skin. Getting the essential-oil amount right matters — more is not better.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup (120 ml) coconut oil (or olive/almond oil)
  • 2 tbsp beeswax pastilles (more for a firmer balm)
  • 15 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • 10 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 5 drops rosemary essential oil
  • A clean 4 oz tin or glass jar

This makes roughly a 2–3% essential-oil dilution — a sensible level for an adult body balm. For older children, halve the essential oils.

How to make

  1. Put the coconut oil and beeswax in a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water (double boiler). Warm gently, stirring, until fully melted and clear.
  2. Take it off the heat and let it cool for a minute or two (still liquid but not piping hot — high heat degrades essential oils).
  3. Stir in the eucalyptus, peppermint and rosemary essential oils and mix well.
  4. Pour into your clean tin or jar and leave undisturbed to set (about 30–60 minutes, or 15 in the fridge).
  5. To use: rub a small amount onto the chest, back or the soles of the feet (then socks). Adults and older children only. Wash hands after and keep away from eyes.

🌡️ Adjust the firmness

Want it firmer (a solid balm) or softer (a spreadable salve)? More beeswax = firmer, less = softer. Test by dropping a little of the melted mix onto a cold spoon — it sets in seconds so you can tweak before pouring.
